Cadet Vincent looking fed up while his mentor's hand is on his shoulder. I will be showing in Ottoway, but exploring further in Moth, the idea of Vincent as someone who is only in the German Military in the period he dwells, because he's too poor to do anything else. He received a scholarship at the academy, only because of his Mother's noble Prussian lineage. Vincent is naturally studious, introverted and cares for the vulnerable, so he really has to push himself to go against his natural inclinations in order to do his job. Not that being caring doesn't also make him a better officer, but he really is meant to represent Otto's idea of a powerful man, and show that Otto is ignorant of how little power Vincent really has, because he needs to participate in a more complex structure just to get bread on the table.
